Certified Scrum Trainer Agile, Implementation Managing Consultant for SolutionsIQ. Brent Barton uses, and has passion for Agile and Scrum and coaches and trains others to work with others. Having successfully implemented Scrum at SolutionsIQ, reorganizing the Professional Services department and helping to double the revenue of Professional Services, Brent continues to work as both a consultant and a mentor on multiple projects. "Your guidance has really helped us with this project and I believe kicked off Scrum successfully in the local search team. Your personal involvement beyond the legal/contract boundaries to help us through was phenomenal, thanks again!" wrote Brent’s client Srishti Sofat of Info Space. Brent brings a pragmatic nature to Scrum, helping organizations find the interpretation of Scrum that is most appropriate to them. "I shine best when I’m making ordered chaos out of just plain chaos," he said. In Brent’s view Scrum is not about solving chaos, but controlling it so that you don’t defeat the natural entropy that allows for creativity. Brent and colleagues published the paper Agile EVM (Earned Value Management) which was presented at the Agile 2006 Conference and has been written about in the Agile Journal and other publications. A combination of both technical and leadership roles have shaped Brent’s fifteen years of software development experience. Brent gained early experience with Agile at Intel; his first project incorporating Agile practices—ShopIntel.com—is still running, 7 years later. Over the years Brent’s clients have ranged from the National Basketball Association to Microsoft. Graduating from San Jose State with a degree in Mathematics and a focus on Computer Science, Brent certified in Scrum in 2003 and as a Scrum Trainer in 2005. Brent co-chairs the Scrum Alliance Scrum Trainers Certifying Committee with Ken Schwaber, and has already trained over 500 people in Scrum. Brent is active in the Agile Alliance and the Agile Project Leadership Network.
